Lumbar Spinal Stenosis is a common disabling condition in the older adult.In this workshop we will review the condition and how it responds to movement.Then we will apply the YUR BACK Pilates program for safe and effective exercise.We will discuss current research that presents spinal flexion and distraction as the most successful conservative treatment as well as discuss the difference between good pain and bad pain, when to refer the client and when to progress the client.


Course Objectives:

1. Student will describe the etiology of central spinal stenosis and differentiate it from vascular claudication.

2. Student will list conditions which may lead to central spinal stenosis.

3. Student will describe the effects of spinal movement on central spinal stenosis and effective spinal flexion.

4. Student will demonstrate exercises appropriate for clients with spinal stenosis on the mat, chair, trapeze table, and reformer.  

5.  Student will identify postures that lead to pain for those with central spinal stenosis and offer cuing and muscle balancing exercises to improve these postures.
